MD Podiatrist Discusses Footwear for Beach Walking

Hitting the beach for a sandy stroll can quickly turn into a hassle without the proper footwear, from waterlogged sneakers that fall apart to itchy, uncomfortable debris in your shoes. Thankfully, there are plenty of solid options available for taking your workout near the water, says Dan Michaels, DPM, a podiatrist and foot and ankle surgeon.

When shopping for shoes for beach walking, Dr. Michaels suggests looking for a comfortable, supportive pair made with waterproof materials that dry quickly and are easy to clean. They should also be durable, with enough traction to keep you stable on slippery rocks, sharp shells, and wet sand.
