Walking Shoes Should be Comfortable from the Start: CA Podiatrist

Not in the mood to run? No problem. Walking is actually a great form of exercise and burns way more calories than you think (about 100 calories per mile). But in order to walk the walk and still be comfortable, you need an A+ pair of walking shoes. Make sure you have a finger nail-width space between your longest toe and the top of the shoe, says Daniel Michaels, DPM, owner of the Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Institute, LLC.

Contrary to popular belief, you shouldn’t have to “break in” a shoe, either. “One of the things that I always tell my patients is that shoes should fit and feel comfortable as soon as you put them on,” says Dr. Michaels.
