MD Podiatrist Discusses What to Look for in a Good Slider
A slider, unlike a slipper, is designed to wear outdoors. Podiatrist and board-certified foot and ankle surgeon Dan Michaels, DPM, recommends a memory foam midsole. Memory foam is made from dense polyurethane, which molds to the shape of your foot via body heat. He says that memory foam is well-cushioned and supportive, which makes for easier walking and standing. Also consider slides with an EVA foam midsole (prized for its lightweight flexibility and shock absorption), ideally paired with a cushioned footbed (like those made with memory foam) for even more support.
The outsole, the part of the shoe that contacts the ground, should provide ample traction and grip—especially if you plan to wear your slides outdoors. Dr. Michaels says to look for rubber outsoles, which offer shock absorption, support, and traction.
