Arch Support Running Shoes for Low and High Arched Feet: MD Podiatrist

Finding running shoes with arch support is especially useful for people with flat feet or high arches since they need extra support to prevent injuries like heel spurs, says podiatrist Dan Michaels, DPM.

Runners with high arches should consider arch supports, because they’re more prone to issues like plantar fasciitis, in which the connective tissue that runs between their heels and toe bones becomes inflamed. Those with high arches also tend to oversupinate (a.k.a. excessively roll outward with each step), so a supportive shoe can help keep strides more neutral, Dr. Michaels says. That said, anyone who pounds pavement may want to consider arch-support running shoes, says Dr. Michaels.
