MD Podiatrist Recommends Sneakers For Jobs That Require Standing

If you’re a nurse, a waiter, a professional marathon runner, a nanny-just to name a few-you know the aches and pains that can occur when you’re moving around 24-7. As Dan Michaels, DPM, says, “Being on your feet all day causes significant strain on the 26 bones, 30 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments in each foot.”

From sneakers to loafers to heels to sandals, you can find a pair of shoes that are comfortable and supportive. Dr. Michaels says, “It is advised to wear shoes that provide both cushioning and stability. The one without the other will likely increase fatigue, pain, and a decrease in duration and functionality.” When it comes to exactly what kind of shoes to buy, he adds, “Sneakers would be the preferred shoe to wear all day.”
