5 Tips for Folks on Their Feet All Day
Whether you’re chasing after toddlers, crushing it at your standing desk, or working a double shift on your feet, foot fatigue can really slow you down. At Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Institute, many of our patients work in professions that require significant time on the go or upright, and that means more pain, fatigue, and related issues to deal with.
There’s no need to worry, however. We’re always pleased to share the information and strategies that our patients find effective; after all, preventing a problem is preferable to treating it! With that in mind, here are five tips to help you stay comfortable and energized, even on the longest days.
1.) Choose the Right Shoes
Your shoes are your foundation, so don’t skimp on them!
- Invest in a healthier future by prioritizing supportive footwear with good arch support, cushioning, and a wide toe box to allow your toes to splay naturally.
- If you’re in pain, consider ditching those high heels or worn-out sneakers that offer little support.
- We can help you find a better option! Consult us for options and experience the difference podiatrist-recommended shoes can make.
2.) Stretch and Strengthen
Just like any other part of your body, your feet need exercise to stay strong and flexible.
- Incorporate simple stretches and exercises into your daily routine, such as calf stretches, toe curls, and ankle rotations.
3.) Take Breaks
Even short breaks can make a big difference.
- If you’re standing for long periods, try to shift your weight from one foot to the other, walk around for a few minutes every hour, or take a moment to elevate your feet.
4.) Consider Compression Socks
Compression socks can help improve circulation and reduce swelling in your feet and legs, especially if you’re on your feet all day.
- They come in various styles and compression levels, so it’s straightforward to find the perfect fit for your needs.
5.) Listen to Your Body
Don’t ignore discomfort. Foot pain is NOT normal!
- If you’re experiencing any issues, address them promptly.
- This might involve simple measures like those listed above; conversely, it could require professional help from a podiatrist.
